What Mantle upgrades mean for pending bridge transfers
Mantle upgrades can pause or delay a bridge transfer at different stages. Learn what stays on-chain, how to check its status and when you may need to act.

A Mantle network upgrade can delay a bridge transfer already in progress; how long depends on which part of the transfer is waiting. A pause does not by itself mean funds are lost: the transfer still needs to be checked at its source and destination.
- A confirmed source transaction stays recorded on its source chain.
- A deposit still needs Mantle to process the incoming message.
- A withdrawal still needs settlement on Ethereum before its final claim.
Why can an upgrade delay a bridge transfer?
A bridge transfer crosses separate networks, and each step depends on software that reads and processes transactions. During an upgrade, operators may pause parts of that process while they update or check network components. A transaction can therefore be confirmed on one chain while its next step waits.
For a deposit from Ethereum to Mantle, Ethereum records the transaction first. Mantle then processes the deposit message and credits the destination address. If that processing is paused, the Ethereum transaction can succeed while the Mantle balance has not appeared yet.
For a withdrawal, the sequence runs in the other direction. The withdrawal starts on Mantle, then its state must be verified and settled on Ethereum before the funds can be claimed there. Mantle uses ZK validity proofs, which are cryptographic checks of transaction batches; Ethereum settlement follows proof verification. A network upgrade can affect the timing of those steps, but the withdrawal remains a separate process from a deposit.
What should you check while a transfer is pending?
Start with the transaction hash on the source network’s block explorer. It shows whether the transaction was included, failed or is still waiting for confirmation. Then check the bridge’s own history or status view for the destination step. A wallet balance alone may not show where the transfer is in the process.
The mantle bridge guide covers the transfer flow in more detail; for an upgrade delay, the key distinction is whether the source transaction has been accepted and whether the destination message has been processed. Keep the transaction hash and use the same sending and receiving address when checking its status.
Read Mantle’s official channels for the upgrade window and any instructions about paused services. The timing depends on the upgrade and the stage that is affected, so a generic wait estimate may not apply. If the source transaction failed, check the explorer’s error details before attempting it again.
Can an upgrade cancel or change a pending transfer?
An upgrade does not erase a transaction that has already been confirmed on its source chain. It may delay the next step, and a change to network software can affect how messages are processed after service resumes. The exact handling depends on Mantle’s instructions for that upgrade.
Do not submit a second transfer just because the first one has not appeared on the destination. That can create a duplicate payment if the original message is merely delayed. First confirm the source transaction’s status and check whether the bridge reports the transfer as pending, complete or failed.
A transaction that was never submitted is different: if it remains unsigned in your wallet, it has not entered the network. If it was submitted but failed, the source explorer will show the failure; any retry should be a new transaction only after you understand the reason for the failure.
When do you need to take action?
Most upgrade delays call for checking status and waiting for the affected service to resume. If the source transaction succeeded and the bridge still shows a pending destination step after Mantle says processing has resumed, use the official bridge support route and provide the transaction hash. Never share your recovery phrase or sign an unexpected transaction to “release” funds.
Withdrawals can require an additional action after settlement: claiming the funds on Ethereum with a separate transaction. Check the withdrawal status to see whether that step is available. You will need ETH in the wallet to pay Ethereum transaction fees.
The practical rule is to follow the transfer stage, not just the wallet display. A confirmed source transaction, a processed destination message and a completed withdrawal claim are different milestones. Knowing which one is pending tells you whether to wait, check upgrade guidance or complete the next required transaction.
